Desirox如何使用？

It is used for patients with iron accumulation due to long-term blood transfusion (such as thalassemia or other rare anemias). It is suitable for children over two years old and adults. So, how to use Desirox?

How to use Desirox:

1. The recommended starting daily dose of Desirox is 20mg/kg. For patients who receive monthly transfusions of more than 14 mL/kg of packed red blood cells (ie, more than 4 units/month in adults) and who need to reduce excess iron exposure, a starting dose of 30 mg/kg/day may be considered.

2. For patients who receive monthly transfusions of less than 7 mL/kg of packed red blood cells (i.e., less than 2 units/month for adults) and who need to maintain iron balance in the body, a starting dose of 10 mg/kg/day may be considered.

3. For patients who have already responded well to deferoxamine treatment, an initial dose equivalent to half of the deferoxamine dose can be considered.

4. Take it on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before meals, once a day, preferably at the same time every day.

Dose adjustment of Desirox:

1. Myelosuppression: Interrupt treatment; may restart once the cause of cytopenia is determined; disabled if platelet count <50,000/mm3;

2. Cutaneous toxicity: Rash (severe): Interrupt treatment; may reintroduce at lower doses (with future dose escalations) and short-term oral corticosteroids. Serious skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, erythema multiforme): Stop and evaluate.

3. Gastrointestinal tract: Stop treating suspected gastrointestinal ulcers or bleeding.

4. Hearing loss or visual impairment: Consider dose reduction or treatment interruption.

It may cause gastrointestinal dysfunction, rash, mild elevation of serum creatinine, transaminases and other problems. Therefore, it is recommended that patients take medicines under the guidance of a doctor and avoid overuse.
