What kind of medicine is it? Uloric (febuxostat) is a xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitor that binds to xanthine oxidase through a non-competitive mechanism to inhibit xanthine oxidase activity, thereby inhibiting the production of uric acid and achieving the purpose of reducing acidity. Therefore, uloric (febuxostat) is suitable for gout with excessive uric acid production, but not for gout with uric acid excretion disorder.

The recommended starting dose of uloric (febuxostat) is 40 mg once daily. After a dose of 40 mg for two weeks, for patients whose serum uric acid level (sUA) is still higher than 6 mg/dl, the recommended dose is 80 mg. There is no need to consider food or antacid effects when taking uloric (febuxostat).

You should also pay attention to the following three points when taking uloric (febuxostat) at the same time: 1. Patients with mild or moderate renal impairment do not need to adjust the dose when taking uloric. 2. Patients with mild to moderate liver function impairment do not need to adjust the dose of uloric (febuxostat). The use of uloric (febuxostat) has not been studied in patients with severe hepatic impairment, therefore uloric (febuxostat) should be administered with caution. 3. After starting uloric treatment, an increase in gout attacks can be observed. This is caused by changing serum uric acid levels that reduce the activity of deposited urate. To prevent gout attacks while taking uloric (febuxostat), coadministration with an NSAID or colchicine is recommended.

In addition to taking medications regularly and quantitatively, gout patients should also pay special attention to their diet. Generally, the general principle is to eat high-protein, high-vitamin, high-calorie, and easily digestible foods. Through reasonable nutrition and appropriate cooking, the patient's appetite should be increased as much as possible, so that the nutrients and energy in the patient's diet can meet the needs of the body and improve their own disease resistance. In short, gout patients must take medication correctly under the guidance of a doctor, pay more attention to their diet, and report to the doctor promptly if they find special side effects of uloric (febuxostat).

(Febuxostat) Common adverse reactions include headache, diarrhea, back pain, joint pain, rash, elevated transaminases, etc. There are also serious adverse reactions that may cause rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms.
