Common side effects and precautions for use of Venacla
Venetoclax is a targeted drug used to treat certain types of blood cancers, such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). As aBCL-2 inhibitor, venetoclax can inhibit the function of the anti-apoptotic protein BCL-2 in tumor cells, thereby promoting the death of cancer cells. Although venetoclax has shown significant efficacy in treating these conditions, its use comes with certain side effects and precautions.

First, one of the most common side effects of venetoclax is bone marrow suppression, which manifests as a drop in blood cell counts. Patients may develop anemia, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia, which may lead to symptoms such as weakened immune function, increased bleeding tendency, and fatigue. Therefore, while using venetoclax, patients need to have regular blood tests to monitor the occurrence of these side effects. If your blood cell counts are found to be too low, your medication dose may need to be adjusted or your treatment may need to be suspended.
Another common side effect is gastrointestinal effects, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. Although these symptoms are usually mild, some patients may experience more severe discomfort. In order to reduce gastrointestinal side effects, patients can take medication in divided meals or take anti-nausea drugs to relieve discomfort. Treatment with venetoclax is often long-term, so management of gastrointestinal symptoms is critical to improving patient quality of life.
Additionally, venetoclax may cause abnormal liver function, manifested by increased levels of liver enzymes in the blood. Patients need to check their liver function regularly while taking this drug to detect abnormalities in time. If elevated liver enzymes are found, the medication regimen may need to be adjusted to avoid overtaxing the liver.
