Dosage and usage of Pramipexole Hydrochloride/Pramipexole Tablets
Pramipexole (Pramipexole) is a drug used to treat idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD) and restless legs syndrome. Its dosage and usage need to be adjusted according to the specific conditions of the patient. For idiopathic Parkinson's disease, pramipexole can be used alone or in combination with levodopa. Especially in the late stages of the disease, the efficacy of levodopa may gradually weaken or become inconsistent, leading to fluctuations in treatment effects.

For patients with Parkinson's disease, the starting dose of pramipexole is 0.088 mg three times daily as an immediate-release tablet, or 0.26 mg once daily as an extended-release tablet. Doctors usually recommend gradually increasing the dose every five to seven days, based on the patient's symptoms and tolerance, until symptoms are controlled without significant side effects. The maximum daily dose is three 1.1 mg immediate-release tablets or one 3.15 mg extended-release tablet. When switching to extended-release tablets, patients can switch overnight, but at this point the dose may need to be adjusted based on patient response. For patients with renal function problems, more caution is needed to reduce the frequency of pramipexole use. Additionally, if treatment needs to be discontinued for any reason, the dose should be gradually reduced rather than discontinued suddenly.
In the treatment of restless legs syndrome, pramipexole immediate-release tablets are usually recommended to be taken once daily, two to three hours before bedtime. The starting dose is 0.088 mg, and if necessary, the dose can be increased after four to seven days to further improve symptoms, up to a maximum of 0.54 mg. Doctors will evaluate the patient's response after three months of treatment to decide whether to continue treatment or adjust the regimen. It is important to note that extended-release tablets are not indicated for the treatment of restless legs syndrome.
When using pramipexole tablets, they should be swallowed with water. Extended-release tablets should not be chewed, split, or crushed, and should be taken at approximately the same time each day to ensure stable release of the drug and optimal efficacy. Through reasonable adjustment of dosage, pramipexole can effectively help patients relieve the symptoms of Parkinson's disease and restless legs syndrome and improve their quality of life.
