Roflumilast tablets (Roflumilast)-What is DALIRESP?

Roflumilast - DALIRESP is an oral anti-inflammatory drug used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Its main mechanism of action is to selectively inhibit phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE-4), an enzyme responsible for the metabolism of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). By inhibiting PDE-4, roflumilast can increase the concentration of intracellular cAMP, thereby regulating the inflammatory response at the molecular level. cAMP is an important mediator of inflammatory pathways, and elevated levels help reduce the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and alleviate the inflammatory state in chronic lung diseases.

The effectiveness of Roflumilast has been demonstrated in multiple large controlled clinical trials. These studies showed that patients treated with roflumilast experienced a decrease in the frequency of COPD exacerbations and some improvement in lung function test results. Since its approval, roflumilast, a novel anti-inflammatory agent, has been widely used in the treatment of patients with COPD, particularly those experiencing acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. This medication is available as 250 and 500 microgram (MCG) tablets, and the recommended dose is once daily.

Although roflumilast is generally considered safe, some side effects may occur during use. Common adverse reactions include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, weight loss, headache, dizziness, insomnia, and back and joint pain. These side effects are usually mild and easy to tolerate. However, roflumilast may also cause some rare but potentially serious adverse reactions, including depression, suicidal ideation, and allergic reactions such as angioedema. Therefore, doctors need to carefully assess a patient's health before prescribing it, especially those with a history of mental illness.
