What are the side effects of landiolol?
Landiolol is an ultra-short-acting β1 adrenergic receptor antagonist, mainly used to control the ventricular rate in adults with supraventricular tachycardia (including atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter). Its pharmacological effects are relatively mild and have little effect on blood pressure and myocardial contractility, so it is widely used in critical care settings. However, like all beta-blockers, landiolol may still cause a range of adverse reactions, the most common of which is hypotension, requiring close monitoring of the patient's hemodynamic status during use.
Hypotension is the most common adverse effect of landiolol, mainly due to its effects on reducing heart rate and cardiac output. Low blood pressure may cause dizziness, fatigue, cold sweats, and in severe cases, syncope or even shock. Therefore, during use, the dose should be adjusted according to the patient's blood pressure condition, and if necessary, the infusion rate should be reduced or the medication should be stopped. Warnings and precautions associated with landiolol include risk of bradycardia and heart failure; risk of exacerbation of reactive airway disease; prevention of early warning signs of hypoglycemia in patients with diabetes and an increased risk of severe or prolonged hypoglycemia; and myocardial ischemia in patients with coronary artery disease.
In addition, landiolol is not suitable for patients with severe sinus bradycardia, sick sinus syndrome, second-degree or higher atrioventricular block, decompensated heart failure, cardiogenic shock and pulmonary hypertension, because patients with these diseases may further aggravate their condition due to the effects of the drug, and even lead to cardiac arrest or circulatory failure. At the same time, patients with known allergies to landiolol or its excipients should avoid using this drug to prevent severe allergic reactions.
In general, landiolol has good efficacy in controlling supraventricular tachycardia, and compared with otherβ-blockers, it has a milder effect, faster metabolism, and relatively controllable side effects. However, it is still necessary to carefully assess the patient's underlying disease during clinical application, and to closely monitor heart rate, blood pressure, blood sugar, and breathing conditions during use to ensure patient safety.
