Detailed usage and dosage information of fidaxomicin and how to use it correctly
Fidaxomicin is an antibiotic used to treat Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD). It exerts an antibacterial effect by inhibiting the RNA polymerase of Clostridium difficile and preventing its DNA synthesis. Fidaxomicin is highly selective against Clostridium difficile and has little effect on normal intestinal flora.
Fidaxomicin is primarily indicated for the treatment of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, both initial and recurrent cases, in adults and children who weigh at least 12.5kg and are able to swallow tablets.
Adult patients are recommended to take one tablet of 200mg (mg) twice daily for 10 days continuously. It is best to take it 1 hours before meals or 2 hours after meals to avoid the impact of food on drug absorption. The drug may also be better tolerated if taken with food.

During the entire course of treatment, the medication should be taken strictly according to the doctor's instructions. Even if the symptoms are relieved, do not stop taking it early to ensure the complete elimination of the germs and reduce the risk of recurrence.
For pediatric patients who weigh at least12.5kg and are able to swallow tablets, the dosage is the same as for adults. Fidaxomicin oral suspension may be used in pediatric patients who are unable to swallow tablets. The specific dosage needs to be adjusted according to the child's weight and should be used under the guidance of a doctor.
Dose adjustments are usually not required in the elderly, but adverse reactions should be monitored closely. Patients with mild to moderate hepatic and renal insufficiency do not need to adjust the dose, but patients with severe hepatic and renal insufficiency should use it with caution under the guidance of a physician.
Before using fidaxomicin, you should inform your doctor about your allergy history, medication history, and all the drugs you are currently using (including prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, health products, etc.) so that the doctor can develop a suitable medication plan. The entire course of treatment should be completed in accordance with the doctor's instructions. Even if the symptoms are relieved, do not stop the medication early to avoid recurrence of the disease or the development of drug resistance.
