Precautions and dietary taboos when using ribociclib
Ribociclib is a selective CDK4/6 inhibitor mainly used to treat hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. As a targeted drug, ribociclib can effectively inhibit the proliferation of tumor cells, but there are some special precautions during use. Patients should follow their doctor's instructions when taking medication to avoid some potential side effects and ensure therapeutic effectiveness.
1. Cardiac Monitoring: Ribociclib may cause prolongation of the QT interval, which may lead to arrhythmias, especially when used in combination with other drugs that prolong the QT interval. Patients taking ribociclib should receive regular electrocardiograms (EKG), especially during the initial stages of treatment and during dose adjustments. If symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness or syncope occur, you should report to your doctor promptly and conduct further examination. It should be used with caution in patients with a history of heart disease and monitored closely during treatment.
2. Hematology monitoring: Ribociclib may cause leukopenia, anemia or thrombocytopenia. Therefore, during treatment, patients should undergo regular blood routine examinations. If signs of persistent fatigue, infection symptoms, easy bleeding or bruising occur, seek medical attention promptly. Severe hematologic abnormalities may require treatment suspension or dose adjustment.
3. Liver function monitoring: Ribociclib may affect liver function and lead to elevated liver enzymes. Patients need regular liver function tests during treatment, especially in the early stages of treatment. If you develop symptoms of liver discomfort such as jaundice, loss of appetite, or upper right abdominal pain, you should contact your doctor immediately.
4. Dietary and drug contraindications: Ribociclib should be avoided being consumed with grapefruit, because grapefruit may affect the activity of certain enzymes in the liver, thereby affecting the metabolism of ribociclib, resulting in excessive drug concentration in the body and increasing the risk of side effects. In addition, ribociclib may have drug interactions with some drugs (such as certain antifungals, antiviral drugs, heart drugs, etc.). Therefore, when taking other drugs, you should inform your doctor that you are using ribociclib so that the treatment plan can be adjusted.
When using ribociclib, patients should undergo regular electrocardiograms, hematological tests and liver function tests, and avoid taking it with foods such as grapefruit and certain drugs to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.
