What are the side effects of ivonib? Will long-term use affect your health?
Ivosidenib is an oral IDH1 inhibitor, mainly used to treat acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and cholangiocarcinoma carrying IDH1 mutations. Although its efficacy is significant, long-term use may cause a variety of side effects, which may have a certain impact on your health.
The most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite and fatigue. These symptoms are usually mild and can be relieved by adjusting your diet, staying hydrated, or using antiemetics as directed by your doctor. However, some patients may experience weight loss and malnutrition, so they need to pay close attention to their diet and perform nutritional intervention if necessary.
Avosidenib may cause differentiation syndrome (DS), which is one of the more serious adverse reactions in AML patients, manifesting as fever, hypotension, dyspnea and edema. If not treated promptly, it may be life-threatening. Therefore, patients need to monitor their condition closely in the early stages of treatment. If similar symptoms occur, they should seek medical attention immediately, and intervention with glucocorticoids (such as prednisone) may be required.
Long-term use may affect heart and liver function, such as QT interval prolongation, liver enzyme elevation, etc. QTProlonged interval can increase the risk of arrhythmia, so regular ECG monitoring is required during treatment. Abnormal liver function usually manifests as elevated levels of ALT and AST. In severe cases, it may cause liver damage. Therefore, patients need to check their liver function regularly and avoid drinking alcohol or using other drugs that may damage the liver.
In general, although ivonib can effectively inhibit the growth of IDH1 mutated tumor cells, long-term use may still affect your health. Therefore, during the treatment process, patients need to undergo regular hematology tests, ECG monitoring, and liver function assessment in order to promptly detect and manage possible adverse reactions and improve the safety and tolerability of the treatment.
