Instructions for taking mabaloxavir correctly
Mabaloxavir , as an innovative influenza virus polymerase acidic (PA) endonuclease inhibitor, opens up new ways for the treatment and prevention of influenza. It is indicated for patients 5 years and older with acute uncomplicated influenza A and B who have had symptoms for no more than 48 hours, who are otherwise healthy or who are at high risk for influenza-related complications. It can also be used as a preventive measure after influenza exposure. So, how to use mabaloxavir correctly?
Start taking mabaloxavir when you first have flu symptoms, such as fever, chills, muscle aches, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose. But remember, if you have been ill for more than48 hours, the medicine may not be as effective. For influenza prevention, it is recommended to take it as soon as possible after close contact with someone with influenza to minimize the risk of infection.
There are some important things to keep in mind when taking mabaloxavir. First, avoid taking it with dairy products such as milk, yogurt, or juices containing calcium, as these foods may affect the absorption of the drug. Also avoid use with laxatives, antacids or vitamin/mineral supplements containing aluminum, calcium, magnesium, iron, selenium or zinc to ensure that the efficacy of the medicine is not interfered with.
So, how to determine the dosage of mabaloxavir? In fact, it mainly depends on the patient's weight. For adult and pediatric patients aged 5 years and above, if tablet form is chosen, the recommended dose is customized based on body weight: patients weighing more than 20 kg and less than 80 kg need to take a single 40 mg tablet orally; patients weighing at least 80 kg need to take a single 80 mg tablet. If the patient chooses the oral suspension form, the dose is also adjusted based on body weight: patients weighing less than 20 kg need to take a single dose of 2 mg of oral suspension per kilogram of body weight; patients weighing more than 20 kg but less than 80 kg need to take a single dose of 40 mg (i.e. 20 ml) of oral suspension; patients weighing at least 80 kg need to take a single dose of 80 mg (i.e. 40 ml, equivalent to two bottles of oral suspension) as a single dose.
In short, the usage and dosage of mabaloxavir must strictly follow the doctor's instructions and be accurately determined based on the patient's age and weight. When taking it, be sure to avoid taking it with certain foods and medicines to ensure the full effect of the medicine. If your symptoms do not improve or show any signs of worsening, you should contact your doctor immediately for further medical help.
