Which is better, cabozantinib tablets or capsules?
Cabozantinib (Cabozantinib), as a multi-target tyrosine kinase inhibitor, is widely used to treat malignant tumors such as advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), thyroid cancer and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. Cabozantinib is available in tablets and capsules, and although both formulations play an important role in treatment, they are not interchangeable. When choosing medication, patients need to decide whether to choose tablets or capsules based on specific indications, treatment stages, and doctor's recommendations.
1. The capsule form of cabozantinib is mainly used to treat progressive metastatic medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), while the tablet form is used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and some other malignant tumors. Specifically, tablets and capsules differ in their therapeutic indications. Cabozantinib tablets are often used in combination therapy, especially when the drug is used in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors (such as nivolumab). Tablets of this dosage form can better cooperate with other drugs and exert a synergistic effect. Cabozantinib tablets are also the standard of care for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma who have been treated with sorafenib.
2. Cabozantinib tablets are also used to treat patients with locally advanced or metastatic differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), especially those whose disease has progressed after previous VEGFR-targeted therapy and who are unable to receive radioactive iodine therapy. Tablets are also indicated for the treatment of previously treated, unresectable locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNET) in pediatric and adult patients 12 years of age and older.
Although the active ingredients of capsules and tablets are the same, differences in their dosage forms make their selection in clinical applications different. During the treatment process, patients should choose the dosage form that suits them according to the guidance of their doctor to ensure the maximum treatment effect.
