Reasonable standard usage and dosage of cycloserine in different patients and different disease stages
Cycloserine (Cycloserine) is an anti-tuberculosis drug used for tuberculosis, especially multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Its main mechanism of action is to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis, thereby preventing the proliferation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In clinical application, the usage and dosage of cycloserine need to be individually adjusted according to the patient's weight, disease course and drug resistance to ensure efficacy and reduce the risk of adverse reactions.
For adult patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis, the commonly used oral dosage of cycloserine is 250mg to 500mg 1 to 2 times a day, which can be adjusted appropriately according to the patient's tolerance and renal function. Generally, in the initial intensive phase, doctors may choose a higher dose to quickly control the bacterial count, while in the maintenance phase, the dose will be gradually adjusted to the lowest effective dose based on the patient's treatment response to reduce the risk of neurological side effects.

Children or patients with light body weight need to calculate the dose strictly based on body weight. It is generally recommended to take 10~15mg per kilogram of body weight daily orally in divided doses, while closely monitoring the nervous system response. For patients with hepatic and renal insufficiency, the dosage should be adjusted more carefully. If necessary, the dosing interval should be extended or the dosage should be reduced to avoid adverse reactions caused by excessive blood concentration, such as peripheral neuropathy, headache, or psychiatric symptoms.
During the entire course of treatment, the use of cycloserine needs to be combined with other anti-tuberculosis drugs, and blood routine, liver and kidney function and nervous system indicators must be regularly monitored. If obvious neurological or psychiatric symptoms occur during treatment, the doctor should be informed promptly and consider adjusting the dose or temporarily discontinuing the drug. Through standardized dose management and individualized medication, cycloserine can minimize the risk of adverse reactions for patients while ensuring its efficacy.
