What are the side effects of bimetinib/bemetinib?
Binimetinib is a MEK inhibitor often used in combination with encofenib to treat BRAF mutation-positive melanoma and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Like all medicines, bimetinib may cause side effects, although most side effects are usually mild and can be alleviated by adjusting the dose. The following are common side effects of bimetinib:
1. Fatigue: When taking bimetinib, patients may feel fatigue to varying degrees, which affects daily activities. In most cases, fatigue symptoms improve later in drug treatment.
2. Nausea and vomiting: Some patients may feel nauseated, and individual patients may vomit. Appropriate dietary modifications and medication adjustments can help relieve these symptoms.
3. Diarrhea: Diarrhea is one of the common adverse reactions of bimetinib. Patients may experience mild to moderate diarrhea during treatment, usually early in the drug treatment, and symptoms gradually decrease after the drug is discontinued.
4. Skin rash: Patients taking bimetinib may experience mild skin reactions, such as rash or itching. These reactions are generally not serious and will resolve during treatment.
5. Loss of appetite: Some patients may experience loss of appetite, which may be related to gastrointestinal discomfort caused by the drug.
6. Liver function damage: Although rare, bimetinib may also cause liver function damage, such as elevated transaminases. Patients should regularly check liver function indicators during treatment to ensure that possible liver problems are detected and dealt with in a timely manner.
7. Eye problems: A few patients may experience eye discomfort or even blurred vision. If eye symptoms occur, patients should seek medical attention immediately.
8. Cardiovascular reactions: Bimetinib may cause some adverse cardiovascular reactions, especially hypotension. Patients need to monitor their blood pressure during use.
