Diazoxide is an optional drug when treating hypertensive crisis, but it is not the drug of choice. Diazoxide is primarily used to treat hypoglycemia and some other conditions, rather than the management of hypertensive crises. Hypertensive crisis is a sharp increase in blood pressure that may be accompanied by serious cerebrovascular or cardiovascular complications. When managing hypertensive crisis, the common first-line medications are angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) or calcium channel blockers (CCBs). These drugs can quickly lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of related complications. In emergencies, drugs with fast onset of action are usually chosen, such as sodium nitroprusside, nitroglycerin, etc.
