What are the indications for Avelumab?

Avelumab is used to treat a type of skin cancer called Merkel cell carcinoma that has spread, and to treat urothelial cancer (a cancer of the urinary tract) that has spread throughout the body (metastatic) or cannot be removed with surgery (advanced). This drug is used in people who have not responded well to other cancer drugs, such as platinum. It is also used as first-line maintenance treatment for urothelial cancer that has spread in patients who have responded well to platinum-containing cancer drugs. Avelumab is also used in combination with other drugs, such as axitinib, as a first-line treatment for advanced renal cell carcinoma, a type of kidney cancer.
