Can axitinib treat melanoma?

Author: medicalhalo
Release time: 2026-02-01 22:25:32

Axitinib is primarily approved to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma, not primarily melanoma. Its mechanism of action mainly involves inhibition of the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR), and treatment of melanoma usually involves immunotherapy and other targeted therapies. Although some studies have shown that axitinib may have certain anti-tumor effects in some other types of cancer, its efficacy in the treatment of melanoma has not been widely confirmed. Treating melanoma often requires a combination of multiple treatment strategies, including surgery, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and other targeted therapies. Patients should develop an individualized treatment plan under the guidance of a professional doctor, taking into account the characteristics of melanoma and the patient's overall condition.
