Can Vigabatrin be used alone for epileptic seizures?

Vigabatrin is used alone or with other medications to treat refractory complex partial seizures (CPS) in adults and children 2 years of age and older, and infantile spasms (IS) in children. It is used in patients who have responded poorly to other medications, but should not be used as a treatment for complex partial seizures. Vigabatrin is an anticonvulsant. Its main function is to increase the content of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) by inhibiting glutamic acid decarboxylase, thereby reducing neural excitability. Because Vigabatrin may cause side effects such as visual field defects, patients' vision and eye health need to be closely monitored during use.
