Opicapone (Opicapone) is a drug used to treat Parkinson's disease. It belongs to a class of drugs called COMT inhibitors, which can prolong the effects you get from other Parkinson's drugs, such as levodopa. The main action of opicapone is to inhibit catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT), an enzyme involved in dopamine metabolism. By inhibiting the activity of the COMT enzyme, Opicapone can increase the concentration of levodopa in the body and increase the duration of its efficacy. This can reduce the "adynamic period" (i.e. the period of insufficient drug efficacy) experienced by patients with Parkinson's disease.
