What kind of anti-tumor drug does sirolimus belong to?
Sirolimus, also a macrolide compound used to coat coronary stents, is a drug used to prevent the body from rejecting a newly transplanted kidney. It is used in adults who are at low to moderate risk of rejection. It is recommended that sirolimus be taken with cyclosporine and corticosteroids (other drugs to prevent organ rejection) for two to three months. Sirolimus may be used for continuation of corticosteroid therapy, but only if cyclosporine therapy can be discontinued. Sirolimus, which contains the active substance sirolimus, is also used to treat sporadic lymphangioleiomyomatosis (S-LAM) in patients with moderate lung disease or worsening lung function.
