Can tocilizumab be used during pregnancy?

The limited available data regarding tocilizumab in pregnant women are insufficient to determine whether there is a drug-related risk of major birth defects and miscarriage. The monoclonal antibody tocilizumab is actively transported across the placenta in late pregnancy and may affect the immune response of the infant exposed in utero. As pregnancy progresses, monoclonal antibodies are increasingly transported across the placenta, with greatest amounts in the third trimester. The risks and benefits should be considered before administering live or live-attenuated vaccines to infants exposed to tocilizumab in utero. Please inform your doctor promptly if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, or if you become pregnant while receiving tocilizumab injections.
