Is avatrombopag a peptide drug?
Avatrombopag is not a peptide drug. It belongs to a class of small organic compounds called thrombopoietin receptor agonists (TPO-Ragonists). Unlike peptide drugs, avatrombopag is a small molecule compound with a relatively small chemical structure, usually consisting of tens to hundreds of atoms. The structure of avatrombopag includes components such as benzene ring, pyridine ring and heterocyclic ring. These components bind to TPO-R at the molecular level and stimulate platelet production in the bone marrow, thereby increasing the number of platelets. Therefore, avatrombopag is different from polypeptide drugs in structure and mechanism of action. Its small molecule structure gives it better oral absorption and pharmacokinetic properties, making it more suitable for oral treatment.
