How about deflazacort, a new hope in the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy? How to take it?
Deflazacort, used as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant, is a third-generation glucocorticoid that is 40 times more effective than hydrocortisone and can currently be used to treat more than 13 diseases. In 2017, it was approved by the United States for use in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) aged 5 years and older. Today let’s learn more about deflazacort in detail? How to take it?
Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a severe neuromuscular genetic rare disease, also known as Duchenne muscular dystrophy or Duchenne muscular dystrophy or Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Studies have shown that deflazacort can better improve muscle strength scores and reduce weight gain in DMD patients. A study of 196 male patients who developed muscle weakness before the age of 5 years. By week 12 of the trial, deflazacort patients had clinically assessed improvements in strength in many muscles throughout the body. At the end of the trial, the average muscle strength of patients treated with the drug remained generally stable. Results from another trial showed that patients taking deflazacort appeared to lose the ability to walk later than those taking a placebo.
So, how should you take deflazacort? Deflazacort is for use in adults and children 2 years of age and older: 0.9 mg/kg/day orally daily; the safety and effectiveness of this drug have not been established in children younger than 2 years of age. If patients are co-administered with a CYP3A4 inhibitor, moderate or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, give 1/3 of the recommended dose; for moderate or strong CYP3A4 inducers, it is recommended to avoid deflazacort. If using the tablet form of this drug, round to the nearest dose; when stopping treatment, gradually reduce the dose if administered for more than a few days. Patients must follow the doctor's instructions and do not change the dosage and usage at will to avoid intolerance reactions.
