Natamycin is a tetraene antibiotic isolated from streptomyces culture fluid. It mainly combines with ergosterol on the fungal cell membrane to form a polyene steroid complex, changes the permeability of the cell membrane, affects the characteristic operation of the cell membrane, and causes the basic components in the fungal cell to flow out and cause cell death. It is not absorbed when taken orally and is highly toxic when administered by injection. It is only used for local medication.
