Fungal keratitis is an eye disease with a high incidence rate. It has become an important blinding corneal disease and is difficult to treat. The widespread use of antibiotics and glucocorticoids will change the local microenvironment of the eye, causing an increase in fungal keratitis. Voriconazole eye drops, as a second-generation triazole antifungal drug, can inhibit the biosynthesis of fungal ergosterol and play an antifungal effect. It has the advantages of broad antibacterial spectrum, high eye bioavailability and strong corneal penetration. As a natural antifungal compound produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces, it relies on its lactone ring structure to combine with the ergosterol and other sterol groups of fungi to inhibit ergosterol biosynthesis, thereby distorting the cell membrane, eventually leading to leakage and cell death. So, which one is better, natamycin eye drops or voriconazole eye drops?

86 patients with fungal keratitis who were treated were selected as the research subjects and divided into a control group and a research group according to the random number table method, with 43 cases in each group. The control group received voriconazole eye drops, and the research group received natamycin eye drops. The clinical effects, visual recovery, eye severity scores, and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups after 1 month of treatment.

Results: After 1 month of treatment, the treatment effectiveness rate of the research group (95.35%) was higher than that of the control group (79.07%), and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After 1 month of treatment, the vision correction rate of the research group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no statistically significant difference in the eye severity scores between the two groups (P>0.05); after 1 month of treatment, the eye severity scores in both groups decreased, and the study group was lower than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05).

It is concluded that compared with voriconazole eye drops, giving natamycin eye drops to patients with fungal keratitis is more conducive to improving the patient's clinical effect, improving the patient's vision correction rate, and reducing the patient's eye severity score.
