A series of side effects may also occur during the use of Silodosin. Please consult your doctor for specific side effects.

Silodosin (Silodosin) Side Effects

1. Very common side effects (incidence rate >2%)

(1) Retrograde ejaculation: It is the most common side effect, with an incidence rate of up to 28.1%. Symptoms include semen flowing backward into the bladder during ejaculation rather than being discharged through the urethra. This phenomenon is not harmful to health and is reversible after stopping the drug, but it may affect fertility and needs to be informed in advance.

(2) Dizziness and orthostatic hypotension: the incidence rate is about 3.2%. When starting treatment or changing body position (such as standing up from sitting or lying down), blood pressure may temporarily drop due to vasodilation, causing dizziness and vertigo.

(3) Digestive tract discomfort: such as diarrhea, the incidence rate is about 2.6%.

(4) Others: also include headache, nasal congestion, nasopharyngitis, etc.

2. Serious side effects that need to be alerted

(1) Intraoperative iris flaccid syndrome: During cataract surgery, patients who take or have taken alpha-blockers may develop iris flaccidity, pupil constriction, etc., which increases the difficulty and risk of the operation. Therefore, patients planning to undergo eye surgery must inform their doctor in advance that they are using this product.

(2) Allergic reactions: After marketing, serious allergic reactions including rash, itching, urticaria, and even rare tongue swelling and pharyngeal edema have been detected. Once signs of allergy appear, discontinue medication and seek medical advice immediately.

(3) Abnormal liver function: In rare cases, symptoms of liver dysfunction such as jaundice and elevated transaminases may occur.

Silodosin (Silodosin) side effects relief

1. Prevent and reduce orthostatic hypotension and dizziness

(1) Slowly change body position: When getting up or standing up, the movement should be slowed down. Sit next to the bed for a few minutes first, and then stand up slowly after feeling no discomfort.

(2) Avoid sudden activities: After taking the medicine, especially in the early stages of treatment, avoid activities that require high alertness such as driving, operating machinery, or working at heights until the body's response to the medicine is clear.

(3) Take with food: Take it with food at the same time every day. Food can slow down drug absorption and reduce the peak blood drug concentration, thereby significantly reducing the risk of dizziness and hypotension.

2. Correct understanding and treatment of retrograde ejaculation

(1) No medical intervention is required: Patients should be informed that retrograde ejaculation is a normal physiological response to the onset of drug effects, and is not a physical injury, does not affect sexual pleasure, and is harmless to health.

(2) Reversibility: This effect will disappear on its own after stopping the drug. Patients whose fertility plans may be affected need to discuss with their doctor in advance.

3. Treatment of other side effects

(1) Mild discomfort: such as mild diarrhea, nasal congestion, etc., usually the body can gradually tolerate it. If symptoms persist or worsen, you should consult your doctor.

(2) Severe reaction: If fainting, severe and persistent dizziness, allergic symptoms (such as rash, difficulty breathing) or symptoms of suspected liver damage (such as yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin) occur, the drug should be discontinued immediately and emergency medical help should be sought.

Silodosin (Silodosin) Drug Interactions

1. Drugs that are strictly prohibited to be used together

Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors: such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir, etc. These drugs will strongly inhibit the metabolism, increase their blood concentration several times, and seriously increase the risk of side effects. Therefore, their simultaneous use is absolutely prohibited.

2. Drugs that need to be used with caution or to avoid using together

(1) Other α-receptor blockers: such as terazosin, doxazosin, etc. Combined use will have a superimposed antihypertensive effect and increase the risk of hypotension and dizziness, so combined use is not recommended.

(2) Antihypertensive drugs: Silodosin itself has antihypertensive effects, and combined use with other antihypertensive drugs may cause blood pressure to drop too low. Although not absolutely contraindicated, blood pressure needs to be monitored closely.

(3) PDE5 inhibitors: drugs for treating erectile dysfunction such as sildenafil and tadalafil. Both are vasodilators and coadministration may increase the risk of symptomatic hypotension.

(4), powerful P-glycoprotein inhibitors: such as cyclosporine. It may increase the plasma concentration of silodosin, and its combined use is generally not recommended.

3. Precautions

Before starting to take silodosin, be sure to inform your doctor of the list of all prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs and health care products you are using, and the doctor will determine whether there is any risk of interaction.
