Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a slowly progressing disease mainly caused by androgens and abnormal cell proliferation. Benign prostatic hyperplasia is currently one of the most common causes of urinary dysfunction in middle-aged and elderly male patients, and its incidence gradually increases with the age of the patient. Therefore, it is crucial to take active and effective treatment measures. The effect on prostate hyperplasia is very good. So, how long should I take finasteride tablets for prostate hyperplasia, and is it effective?

How long should you take finasteride tablets for prostate hyperplasia?

When finasteride is used to treat prostatic hyperplasia, it usually takes at least 3 months or more than half a year to be effective. Since this drug has a relatively slow onset of action and only slows down the increase in prostate volume, it cannot reduce the size of the prostate. Therefore, you must understand the expectations of taking this drug. This medicine only controls the excessive growth of prostate volume, but cannot reduce the size of hyperplasia. Moreover, it generally requires long-term medication, at least for more than 3-6 months.

Is it effective to take finasteride tablets for prostate hyperplasia?

78 BPH patients were selected as research subjects and divided into observation group and control group according to the random number table method, with 39 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Apremide combined with Finasteride tablets, and the observation group was treated with TURP combined with Apremide and Finasteride tablets. The clinical efficacy, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), Quality of Life Score (QOL), residual urine volume (PVR), and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.

Results: The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group (89.7%) was higher than that in the control group (74.3%), and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the IPSS and QOL scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, and the PVR was significantly lower than that of the control group, with statistical significance (P<0.05). The incidences of urinary incontinence and infection in the observation group were slightly lower than those of the control group, but there was no statistically significant difference between the groups.

Conclusion: TURP combined with Aprete and Finasteride tablets has significant therapeutic effect, improves the clinical symptoms of patients, improves their quality of life, and reduces residual urine volume, and is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
