Enstilar, a combination product of calcipotriol (a vitamin D analog) and betamethasone dipropionate (a corticosteroid), is the first spray-foam psoriasis drug indicated for the topical treatment of plaque psoriasis in patients ≥12 years of age. Calcipotriol hydrate is a synthetic vitamin D analog and betamethasone dipropionate is a synthetic corticosteroid. Enstilar combines the pharmacological actions of calcipotriol hydrate as a synthetic vitamin D3 analog and betamethasone dipropionate as a synthetic corticosteroid.

To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of a novel aerosol foam calcipotriol 50 µg/g plus betamethasone dipropionate 0.5 mg/g (Cal/BD foam, Enstilar) for the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris under daily operating conditions.

Methods: 410 adult patients with psoriasis (56% men) from 87 study sites in Germany participated in a 4-week open-label, prospective, uncontrolled, observational, non-interventional study.

Results: At baseline, patients' psoriasis severity was mild (41.81%), moderate (49.63%), and severe (8.31%), as assessed by the Investigator's Global Assessment (IGA). After 4 weeks of treatment, 49% of patients achieved clear/almost clear IGA. The average affected body surface area decreased from 12.91% to 7.55%, and PASI decreased from 10.4 to 5.2 (p<0.0001). Treatment success was achieved in 43% of patients with severe IGA (IGA=0/1 and ≥2 steps improvement). 93% of patients did not experience any adverse events.

Conclusion: The novel Cal/BD foam (Enstilar) showed convincing efficacy and tolerability in daily practice, especially in patients with more severe disease manifestations.

Enstilar drug purchase channels

Enstilar is not intended for oral, ophthalmic, or vaginal use.
