Clofazimine can be taken in the morning or in the evening. The drug instructions indicate that it should be taken once a day with food or milk. Patients can take it at the same time every day to maintain the blood concentration of the drug in the body.

Indications

In addition to tuberculosis and leprosy, clofazimine can also be used to treat a variety of infectious and non-infectious diseases, including pyoderma gangrenosum, chronic discoid lupus erythematosus, severe acne, pustular psoriasis, leishmania, and malaria parasite infections. Studies have found that clofazimine can also be used in combination with tumor drugs for anti-tumor treatment.

At present, the clinical application dose of clofazimine is mostly 50-100 mg/d. The results show that there is a clear correlation between the dose of clofazimine and adverse reactions. Common adverse reactions include diarrhea, headache, and nausea. When clofazimine is used to treat various types of dapsone-resistant leprosy, it is taken orally, 50-100 mg/d once, in combination with one or several other anti-leprosy drugs. For drug-resistant tuberculosis and nontuberculous mycobacteriosis, 100 mg three times a day.

When treating other skin diseases, take 100-400mg orally every day, and gradually reduce the dosage after the condition is controlled. When treating other skin diseases, take 100-400mg orally every day, and gradually reduce the dosage after the condition is controlled. The maximum daily dose for adults is no more than 300mg and should be taken with food or milk.

It is prohibited for those who are allergic to clofazimine. It should be used with caution for those with a history of gastrointestinal diseases or liver function impairment and those who are intolerant to clofazimine. When the daily dose exceeds 100mg, close observation should be carried out and the course of treatment should be as short as possible.

If the patient experiences abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea during medication, the dosage should be reduced, the medication interval should be extended, or the medication should be discontinued. Occasionally, splenic infarction, intestinal obstruction, or gastrointestinal bleeding may occur while taking the medicine and require laparotomy. Therefore, high attention should be paid to those who develop symptoms of acute abdomen while taking the medicine.

Clofazimine can cross the placenta and enter breast milk, causing skin staining in newborns and nursing infants. Pregnant women should avoid using clofazimine, and lactating women should not use clofazimine.

Clofazimine can cause an acceleration of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, an increase in blood sugar, albumin, serum aminotransferase and bilirubin, and a decrease in serum potassium. Care should be taken to interfere with some diagnoses.
