Ramosetron ODT for IBS-D: Gender-Based Dosing and Treatment Review

　　1.Indication Boundary

　　Ramosetron hydrochloride ODT is indicated for adult diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome(IBS-D).

　　It targets recurrent diarrhea,abdominal discomfort,and visceral hypersensitivity.It is not for:

　　constipation-predominant or mixed IBS;

　　infectious enteritis or acute diarrhea;

　　chemotherapy-induced nausea/vomiting in this IBS context.

　　2.Dosing by Sex

　　Place the tablet on the tongue;it disintegrates with saliva and can be swallowed with water.

　　Male IBS-D:5μg once daily,adjustable by symptoms,max 10μg/day.

　　Female IBS-D:2.5μg once daily,may be increased if insufficient,max 5μg/day.

　　Do not copy another patient’s dose or change doses frequently.

　　3.Course Duration

　　Even with symptom control,indefinite use is not automatically recommended.

　　Re-evaluate around 3 months​after initiation;

　　Decide continuation,taper,or stop based on stool pattern,pain,and tolerability;

　　Long-term maintenance requires clinician judgment.

　　4.Main Safety Concern:Constipation

　　The most common reactions are constipation and hardened stool.

　　Seek advice if:

　　no bowel movement for several days;

　　worsening bloating or abdominal pain;

　　hard-stool bleeding;

　　pre-existing severe constipation worsens.

　　Do not self-increase dose to“counter”residual diarrhea.

　　5.Mechanism and Storage

　　Ramosetron is a selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist:

　　reduces excessive intestinal motility;

　　lowers colonic pain hypersensitivity;

　　improves diarrhea and related discomfort.

　　Storage:
