Hepatic veno-occlusive disease (HVOD) is one of the serious complications after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), and the mortality rate in patients with severe HVOD can be as high as 100%. It is a mixture of single-stranded oligonucleotides with anti-thrombotic and fibrinolytic effects.
In recent years, multiple clinical research results have shown that defibrotide is a safe and effective drug for preventing and treating HVOD after HSCT.
Defibrotide was first developed by Gentium Pharmaceuticals in Italy and was approved for marketing in the EU in October 2013. After Gentium Pharmaceuticals was acquired by Jazz Pharmaceuticals of the United States, defibrotide was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be launched in the United States on March 30, 2016. So how much does a tube of defibrotide cost?
Price of defibrotide: According to Medical Companion Travel, defibrotide has been marketed abroad. The price of defibrotide listed abroad is about 22,000. Due to the floating exchange rate, the price is different. Please consult Medical Companion Travel for the specific price!
How to use defibrinoside:
The recommended dose of defibrotide is 6.25 mg/kg given every 6 hours as a 2-hour intravenous infusion. Treatment lasts for a minimum of 21 days. If signs and symptoms of VOD do not resolve after 21 days, continue treatment until resolution.
Hypersensitivity reactions have occurred in less than 2% of patients treated with defibrotide. These reactions include rash, urticaria, and angioedema.
If a severe hypersensitivity reaction occurs, discontinue defibrotide, treat with standard medical care, and monitor until symptoms resolve.
Adverse reactions: The most common (incidence ≥10% and independent causal relationship) are hypotension, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and epistaxis.
