1. Outbreak of gout:

If a gout attack occurs during treatment, febuxostat does not need to be discontinued. Preventive treatment (i.e., initiating treatment with NSAIDs or colchicine) may be beneficial until 6 months of age.

2. Cardiovascular events:

In clinical trials, a higher incidence of cardiovascular embolic events was observed in patients treated with febuxostat than with allopurinol. Monitor for signs and symptoms of MI and stroke.

3. Elevated liver enzymes:

Elevated aminotransferases have been observed in patients treated with febuxostat. Monitor liver function tests regularly.

4. During drug treatment, you must control your diet and prohibit the intake of animal offal, seafood, hot pot, various meats, various alcoholic beverages and other high-purine foods.

5. After taking febuxostat, the uric acid value is controlled below 360 and needs to be taken continuously. After the uric acid reaches the standard below 360, it needs to be taken for at least one year. After one year, there will be no gout attacks. You can consider reducing and stopping the drug and taking it once every 2-3 days.

For young hyperuricemia patients without attacks or gout patients with few attacks, after successful weight loss through diet control and reasonable exercise, it will be relatively smooth to stop taking urate-lowering drugs.

However, patients with recurrent gout, or patients who are obese and unable to lose weight, are prone to relapse of uric acid after stopping medication. At this time, it is recommended to take medication for a long time to maintain the uric acid level, without forcing the medication to be stopped. Instead, the purpose of treatment is to reduce the harm of high uric acid to the human body.

6. Gout patients with existing cardiovascular disease or cardiovascular risk factors should use febuxostat with caution.

7. Patients who have experienced skin reactions to allopurinol in the past should use febuxostat with caution.
