Whether fezolinetant is a top antibiotic and its clinical value
Fezolinetant (Fezolinetant) does not belong to the class of antibiotics, nor is it a so-called “top antibiotic”. It is a new type of non-hormonal selective neurokinin 3 receptor antagonist (NK3R antagonist), mainly used to treat moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms (VMS) in menopausal women, such as hot flashes and night sweats. This type of symptom is caused by the decrease in estrogen levels during menopause, which leads to the disorder of the heat regulation mechanism of the hypothalamus. Fezolinetant targets this central nervous pathway.
Compared with traditional hormone replacement therapy (HRT), the biggest advantage of filazonatant is that it does not contain hormone components, thus reducing the long-term risks related to breast cancer, thrombotic diseases, etc. This makes it particularly suitable for menopausal women who are unable or unwilling to use estrogen treatment, filling an important gap in past treatments.

Clinical studies have shown that Fezolinetant can significantly improve the frequency and intensity of hot flashes in a short period of time (usually within a few days to two weeks after taking it), and is well tolerated. The main side effects are mild liver enzyme elevation, headache or nausea, etc., and the overall safety is high. This efficacy also prompted the FDA to approve its marketing in 2023 for the treatment of hot flashes in postmenopausal women.
In general, fizonitant is not an antibacterial drug, but an innovative neuromodulatory drug focusing on female endocrine symptoms. It has shown important clinical value, especially providing a new solution for menopausal women who are not suitable for hormone treatment. In the field of menopause management, its launch is considered to be one of the few major developments in the past 20 years.
