Is it feasible to use one capsule of cycloserine a day?
Cycloserine (Cycloserine), as an anti- tuberculosis drug, is mainly used to treat multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and other tuberculosis infections that are insensitive to first-line anti-tuberculosis drugs. The dosage and usage need to be individually adjusted based on the patient's weight, liver and kidney function, age and disease severity. The standard recommended dose is usually 250mg or 500mg twice daily, with a total dose ranging from 500mg to 1000mg. If calculated based on one pill of 250mg per day, the dose may be too low and it will be difficult to achieve effective blood concentration, thus affecting the efficacy.

However, in some special cases, such as patients who are underweight, have reduced renal function, or experience adverse reactions during medication, such as central nervous system intolerance (such as headache, depression, epileptiform seizures, etc.), doctors may, at their discretion, lower the dose to once a day to enhance tolerance and reduce the occurrence of adverse events. Particularly in the elderly or patients with concomitant neurological disease, reducing dosing frequency is sometimes a necessary strategy.
It needs to be emphasized that the blood concentration of cycloserine is greatly affected by factors such as food, liver enzyme activity, and interactions with other drugs. Random changes in dosage or frequency may lead to treatment failure or toxic side effects. Therefore, whether it is feasible should be comprehensively evaluated by tuberculosis specialists based on drug blood concentration monitoring (TDM) and the patient's individual situation. In clinical practice, doctors usually regularly monitor plasma drug concentrations and patients' neuropsychological status to ensure that treatment strikes a balance between effectiveness and safety. In summary, although the usage of one pill of cycloserine per day may be adopted in certain situations, it is not a standard protocol and must be implemented with caution under professional guidance.
