What are the common side effects of brigatinib?
Brigatinib (Brigatinib) is a drug used to treat ALK non-small cell lung cancer (NSCL C) targeted drugs, which belong to the second generation of ALKtyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI). Although brigatinib has shown significant efficacy in ALK-positive patients, it may also cause a series of side effects, especially early in treatment. Therefore, understanding its common side effects and taking appropriate prevention and management measures is very important to ensure the safety of treatment.
One of the most common side effects of brigatinib is pulmonary adverse reactions, especially interstitial lung disease (ILD) and pneumonia. These side effects usually occur in the first few months of treatment, so patients need to pay special attention to respiratory changes when starting treatment. Common symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, fever and chest pain. If the patient develops persistent cough or difficulty breathing, he or she needs to see a doctor as soon as possible to conduct a lung function evaluation. Medication may need to be suspended or reduced. In some cases, ILD may be severe or even fatal, so lung function must be monitored closely during treatment, especially during the first month of treatment.

Brigatinib may also cause a series of digestive system side effects, with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite being the more common reactions. These adverse reactions usually appear early in treatment and may gradually lessen as treatment continues. To alleviate these symptoms, patients can take the medication after a meal rather than on an empty stomach. For people with diarrhea, it is recommended to maintain adequate fluid intake to avoid dehydration and may be relieved with antidiarrheal medications such as loperamide. If diarrhea is severe, the dose may need to be reduced or treatment suspended.
Nervous system side effects are also common adverse reactions of brigatinib, especially dizziness, headache, and visual disturbances (such as blurred vision or light sensitivity). These symptoms usually appear within a few days of starting the medication and in most cases gradually improve over time. However, patients should avoid activities that require high concentration, such as driving or operating complex machinery, to reduce the impact of adverse reactions on daily life. If persistent dizziness or severe visual problems occur, patients should report it to their doctor immediately and their treatment plan may need to be adjusted if necessary.
Brigatinib may cause cardiovascular side effects, including high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, etc. High blood pressure is one of the common side effects of brigatinib, and antihypertensive drugs may be needed to control blood pressure. In some patients, brigatinib may also cause prolongation of the QT interval, which may lead to serious cardiac arrhythmias. Therefore, patients need to regularly check their blood pressure and perform electrocardiogram monitoring when taking brigatinib. If severe symptoms of high blood pressure or irregular heartbeat occur, your doctor may consider adjusting the dose of your medication or temporarily discontinuing it.
