Dutasteride soft capsule dosage and usage

Dutasteride soft capsule (Dutasteride) is a 5α- reductase inhibitor, mainly used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and androgenic alopecia in men. The drug works by inhibiting 5α-reductase 1 2 activity, reduce the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), thereby reducing prostate size or improving hair follicle health. Correct usage and dosage are crucial to ensure therapeutic effectiveness and reduce side effects.

Generally speaking, when dutasteride is used to treat prostatic hyperplasia, the recommended standard dose is 1 times a day, 1 capsules each time (0.5mg), and it is recommended to take it at the same time every day to maintain a stable blood concentration. This medication should be swallowed whole and the capsules should not be chewed or opened as the active ingredients may irritate the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat. It usually takes 3 to 6 months of continuous use to show obvious effects, and long-term use can continue to improve symptoms and reduce the risk of acute urinary retention.

For androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness), the use of dutasteride is not approved in all countries around the world, but doctors in some areas may recommend it as an alternative to finasteride (Finasteride). When used to treat hair loss, the dosage is generally still 0.5 mg per day. However, due to individual reactions to the drug, some patients may take longer to see effects. Hair loss treatment usually needs to be continued for at least 6 months before the efficacy can be evaluated.
