When should my patient start receiving palbociclib in tablet form?
In April 2020, palbociclib was changed from capsules to blister-packed tablets. Please specify "palbociclib tablets" when prescribing palbociclib so that your patient can receive the tablet formulation.
What is the difference between palbociclib capsules and palbociclib tablets?
The formulations of palbociclib are bioequivalent and contain the same active ingredient. However, palbociclib tablets can be taken with or without food, are film-coated, and can be taken with PPIs or antacids.
How will this shift affect palbociclib dosing?
The dose strength of palbociclib will remain unchanged. You can continue to prescribe 125 mg, 100 mg and 75 mg, but in tablet form. Each dose strength of palbociclib tablets is designed in a different shape, size and/or color. The tablets will be taken according to the same treatment plan as the capsules, one tablet of palbociclib per day for 3 weeks on and 1 week off

What is the difference between the packaging of palbociclib tablets and capsules?
Although palbociclib capsules come in bottles, the tablet formulation is distributed monthly in 3-week blister packs. The weekly blister packs are designed to help patients keep track of their treatment cycle.
Can my patient still use their pill box to hold pills?
No, the patient should be advised not to remove the tablets from the blister pack and transfer the dose box. If the patient is still taking palbociclib capsules, the pill box can continue to be used.
Are there any other side effects or safety concerns with palbociclib tablets?
The efficacy and safety data in the tablet label are based on clinical trials of the capsule formulation. The benefit and risk profile of palbociclib tablets is similar to that of the approved capsules.
How should my patient store palbociclib tablets?
Palbociclib should be stored in its original blister packaging at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Patients should be advised to store palbociclib tablets in blister packs.
