Can tofacitinib cause high blood pressure?

Tofacitinib (Tofacitinib)can cause hypertension in patients with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA). During clinical development of tofacitinib, hypertension was found to be a common side effect of treatment with the drug, occurring in 2% of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. Hypertension was observed in 2% of patients receiving tofacitinib 5 mg twice daily and in 2% of patients receiving the higher dose of 10 mg twice daily. In data from six phase III studies and two long-term extension studies in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, blood pressure remained stable over time and adverse events related to hypertension were rare.
