Can linezolid cross the blood-brain barrier?
Linezolid (Linezolid) is an orally administered antibiotic that is generally thought to be able to cross the blood-brain barrier and enter the central nervous system. This gives linezolid certain advantages in the treatment of central nervous system infections or underlying infections. Nonetheless, the blood-brain barrier permeability of linezolid is limited, and its concentrations are generally low in brain tissue. Clinically, when linezolid is used to treat central nervous system infections, doctors will consider its drug concentration and effectiveness, and may need to be combined with other antibiotics that better cross the blood-brain barrier to enhance the therapeutic effect. At the same time, linezolid may cause neurological side effects such as peripheral neuropathy or optic neuritis when used long-term or at high doses, so careful monitoring and management are required during use.
