Budesonide extended-release capsules, trade name Tarpeyo, are a prescription drug specifically used to treat adult patients with primary IgA nephropathy.

Precautions before taking Budesonide Sustained Release Capsules (Tarpeyo)

1. Comprehensively inform the doctor of all health conditions. You must inform the doctor in detail whether you have any type of infection, including active, chronic or latent infection.

2. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to budesonide, any other corticosteroid, or any inactive ingredients in it.

3. Discuss vaccination status with your doctor before starting treatment. Live vaccines (such as measles, mumps, rubella vaccine, live shingles vaccine, live nasal spray influenza vaccine, etc.) should be avoided while taking immunosuppressive drugs because of the potential for vaccine-related illness.

It is recommended to complete all necessary vaccinations according to the guidelines before starting treatment with budesonide extended-release capsules and ensure sufficient time for the vaccines to take effect.

4. Complete a baseline medical exam, which may include blood pressure measurements, blood sugar level testing, eye exams, bone density scans, and assessment of your current kidney and liver function.

The pictures come from public channels (such as the official website of the FDA, the official website of the original drug manufacturer, etc.) and are for reference only.

Precautions while taking Budesonide sustained-release capsules (Tarpeyo)

1. Strictly follow the medication method

Should the budesonide sustained-release capsules be swallowed whole according to the usage and dosage instructions on the package. Do not chew, crush the capsules, or open them for swallowing.

You should not eat any food for at least 1 hour before taking the medicine and for at least 1 hour after taking the medicine.

2. Be alert for signs of infection

During the period of medication, the function of the immune system may be suppressed, making infection more likely to occur, and the infection may be more serious.

Pay close attention to any symptoms of infection, such as fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny nose, painful urination, red, swollen and warm wounds.

Once you have any symptoms of suspected infection, you should contact your doctor immediately. Do not take antipyretics or antibiotics to cover up your condition.

3. Monitor common drug side effects

High blood pressure is one of the key points that need to be monitored. If possible, blood pressure should be measured and recorded at home regularly.

Because corticosteroids may affect blood sugar levels, especially in people with prediabetes or diabetes, blood sugar needs to be monitored more frequently.

4. Store the medicine properly

Store the original bottle of budesonide sustained-release capsule at room temperature (20°C to 25°C), and allow a short deviation to 15°C to 30°C. Do not remove the desiccant from the bottle, and always tighten the bottle cap to prevent the drug from becoming ineffective due to moisture.

Precautions after taking Budesonide Sustained-Release Capsules (Tarpeyo)

1. Do not stop taking the drug without authorization

After long-term use of corticosteroids, sudden discontinuation is a dangerous behavior. Sudden discontinuation may lead to adrenal insufficiency, extreme fatigue, weakness, nausea, vomiting, hypotension and other crises.

2. Continuous monitoring after the end of treatment

Even if the drug is successfully discontinued, the monitoring of IgA nephropathy is still lifelong. It is still necessary to regularly review kidney function, blood pressure and urinary protein as recommended by your doctor to assess the long-term stability of the disease and detect any signs of recurrence in a timely manner.
