Esomeprazole instructions

[Drug Name] Esomeprazole, Nexium

【Indications】

1. Treatment of reflux esophagitis.

2. Long-term maintenance treatment to prevent recurrence of cured esophagitis patients.

3. Symptom control of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with appropriate antimicrobial therapy.

It also includes: 1. Healing duodenal ulcer related to Helicobacter pylori.

2. Prevent the recurrence of peptic ulcer related to Helicobacter pylori. Patients requiring continued NSAID therapy.

Treatment of gastric ulcers associated with treatment with NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).

[Usage and Dosage] Tablets should be swallowed whole with liquid and should not be chewed or crushed.

1. For the treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis, take 40 mg once a day for four weeks.

2. For patients whose esophagitis has not been cured or who have persistent symptoms, it is recommended to take medication for another four weeks. Long-term maintenance treatment for cured esophagitis patients to prevent recurrence, 20 mg once daily.

3. Symptom control of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): patients without esophagitis take 20 mg once a day. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks of medication, the patient should undergo further examination. Once symptoms have resolved, subsequent symptom control can be achieved with immediate therapy, i.e. 20 mg orally once daily as needed.

4. Combined with appropriate antibacterial therapy to eradicate Helicobacter pylori, heal duodenal ulcers related to Helicobacter pylori, and prevent the recurrence of peptic ulcers related to Helicobacter pylori, esomeprazole tablets 20 mg + amoxicillin 1g + clarithromycin 500 mg, twice a day for a total of 7 days.

[Side Effects] Dermatitis, itching, urticaria, dizziness, and dry mouth are common.

【Notes】

1. When any alarm symptoms occur (such as significant involuntary weight loss, repeated vomiting, dysphagia, vomiting blood or melena), when gastric ulcer is suspected or gastric ulcer is already present, malignant tumors should be ruled out, because treatment with esomeprazole magnesium enteric-coated tablets can reduce symptoms and delay diagnosis.

2. Patients who have been treated with this drug for a long time (especially those who have used it for more than 1 year) should be monitored regularly.

3. Patients with rare hereditary diseases such as fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency should not take esomeprazole.
