Common side effects of Shudan: Patients using (ondansetron hydrochloride) may experience headache, abdominal discomfort, constipation, dry mouth, rash, occasional bronchial asthma or allergic reactions, transient asymptomatic increases in transaminases, etc. The above reactions are mild and do not require special treatment. There are rare reports of individual patients having epileptic seizures and chest pain, arrhythmia, hypotension, and bradycardia.

Shudan (ondansetron hydrochloride) is a potent and highly selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist with strong antiemetic effects. Chemotherapy drugs and radiotherapy can cause the release of 5-HT in the small intestine and activate the afferent branch of the vagus nerve through 5-HT3 receptors, triggering the vomiting reflex. This product can block this reflex and trigger the afferent branch of the vagus nerve. It can also cause the release of 5-HT in the Postrema area at the bottom of the fourth ventricle, thus strengthening the effect of Shudan through the central mechanism. For nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Shudan exerts antiemetic effects by antagonizing the 5-HT receptors of local neurons located in the peripheral and central nervous system. The mechanism of nausea and vomiting after surgery is unknown, but it may be induced by a common pathway similar to that of cytotoxic drugs that induce nausea and vomiting. This product can also inhibit nausea induced by opioids. Its mechanism of action is still unclear. Due to its highly selective effect, this product does not have the side effects of other antiemetics, such as excessive sedation for extrapyramidal reactions.

For patients with renal impairment, there is no need to adjust the dosage, frequency of administration and route of administration. For patients with liver function impairment, the ability to clear this product from the body is significantly reduced in patients with moderate or severe liver function impairment, and the serum half-life is also significantly prolonged. Therefore, the daily dosage should not exceed 8 mg. This product should not be used after abdominal surgery to avoid masking symptoms of ileal or gastric dilatation. Compatibility studies with polyvinyl chloride infusion bags and polyvinyl chloride drug delivery devices have been conducted, and it is believed that Shudan has considerable stability when used with polyvinyl chloride infusion bags or type I glass bottles.
