The active ingredient is 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA). Its core mechanism is to exert an anti-inflammatory effect locally on the intestinal mucosa.

Mesalazine is mainly suitable for the acute attack treatment and remission maintenance treatment of the following diseases:

2. Crohn's disease: Mesalazine is used for Crohn's ileitis and colitis.

Mesalazine (Salofalk) Usage and Dosage
1. Adults and the elderly (unless otherwise prescribed, take 1-3 times a day):
(1) Acute stage of ulcerative colitis: 1.5-3g daily.
(2). Acute stage of Crohn’s disease: 3–4.5g per day.
(3). To maintain the remission period of ulcerative colitis: 1.5g per day.
(4). To maintain remission of Crohn’s disease: 1.5–3g daily.
2. Medication for children (6 years old and above, weight ≥40kg can be given as adult dose):
(1). Acute stage of ulcerative colitis: 30–50mg/kg daily.
(2). To maintain remission: 15–30 mg/kg daily.
3. Correct method of taking the medicine
(1) Swallow the tablet whole: Be sure to swallow the tablet whole with enough water. Do not chew, crush or break it. Otherwise, the enteric coating will be destroyed and the drug will be released prematurely in the stomach. It will not only irritate the gastric mucosa, but also prevent it from reaching the lesion.
(2) Take before meals: In order to reduce the impact of food on gastric emptying speed and ensure that the tablets enter the intestine smoothly and quickly, it is recommended to take it at least 1 hour before meals.
Adverse reactions of mesalazine (Salofalk)
1. Common adverse reactions
