How to deal with LONSURF side effects (2)
Diarrhea/Abdominal Pain
Diarrhea
Eat 5 or 6 small meals a day instead of 3 large meals (this will not change your dosing schedule)
Ask your healthcare provider about foods high in sodium and potassium. Because your body loses these minerals when you have diarrhea, it's important to replenish them. Foods high in sodium and potassium include bananas, oranges, peach and apricot nectar, and cooked or mashed potatoes
Eat low-fiber foods
Drink 8 to 12 cups of clear liquids daily
Drink liquids slowly and at room temperature
Talk to your health care provider, who may prescribe medication to help. Do not take any medication without discussing it first.
Try deep breathing, yoga, or other relaxation methods. This helps relieve muscle tension, anxiety and pain
Abdominal pain
Exercise regularly
Eat fiber-rich foods such as fruits and vegetables
Avoid foods that produce gas
Let your caregiver know about your pain so he or she can try to help you.
Fever
Drink more fluids, such as water, juice and broth, as fever can lead to fluid loss and dehydration
Rest
Wear light clothes and avoid heavy bedding to keep cool.
If you have a fever or other signs of infection, call your health care provider immediately. Monitor body temperature daily.
