The adverse reactions of guselkumab are generally controllable and commonly include upper respiratory tract infection, headache, injection site reaction (redness, swelling, pain or itching), joint pain and mild gastrointestinal discomfort. Because IL-23 suppression affects the immune system, a small number of patients may be at increased risk of infections, such as the cold or shingles. Clinical recommendations are to evaluate patients for active infections, particularly tuberculosis and hepatitis, before treatment. Most adverse reactions are mild to moderate and can be alleviated through symptomatic treatment or adjustment of dosing intervals. For serious infections or allergic reactions, medication should be suspended and treated under the guidance of a professional physician. Long-term follow-up showed that the drug was stable and well tolerated under strict monitoring.
