喜保宁在婴儿痉挛症治疗中的应用与效果评估
Introduction: Vigabatrin, also known as vigabatrin, is a drug used to treat infantile spasms. It mainly reduces the number of epileptic seizures by inhibiting the conversion of glutamate in the brain. Although vigabatrin does not cure spasticity, it can reduce the severity of symptoms and frequency of attacks.
Indications
1. Treatment of refractory focal epilepsy (complex partial epilepsy, also known as focal disorder of consciousness seizures) in children and adults aged 2 years or above. This means that focal seizures do not respond to other epilepsy medications. It is recommended as an add-on treatment or as a complement to another epilepsy medication. Because vigabatrin can cause severe vision loss, it is not the drug of choice for the treatment of complex partial epilepsy.
2. Treat infantile spasms in children aged 1 month to 2 years old, and children with infantile spasms.
Vigabatrin treats epilepsy
Belongs to a class of drugs called anticonvulsants, which work by reducing abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Vigabatrin's approval in the United States was based on two studies in complex partial seizures and two studies in infantile spasms. All the studies showed that patients taking Vigabatrin had more improvement in their seizures than those taking a placebo sugar pill, but it only reduced the seizures, not eliminated them or cured the underlying epilepsy.
The effectiveness of Vigabatrin in the treatment of infantile spasms
Research has shown that Vigabatrin has a certain efficacy in the treatment of infantile spasms. Especially after the failure of first-line drug treatment, the effectiveness of Vigabatrin can still reach 65%. While Vigabatrin has been shown to be effective in reducing the onset of infantile spasms, it may also have side effects. Therefore, doctors need to carefully weigh the potential benefits versus risks when using Vigabatrin.
Vigabatrin dosage for the treatment of infantile spasms
Vigabatrin in solution form is generally required. For infantile spasms, the dosage for children between 1 month and 2 years old depends on weight and must be determined by a doctor. The starting dose is 50 mg/kg per day, taken in 2 divided doses per day. Your doctor may adjust the dose as needed. But the dose usually does not exceed 150mg/kg per day. If it is a child under 1 month of age, the dosage must be determined by the doctor.
