It is a small molecule neurokinin 3 receptor (NK3R) antagonist developed by Astellas Pharma Inc. Common side effects associated with the use of Veozah include headache and gastrointestinal disturbances, as well as increased liver aminotransferase levels.

Indications for Veozah

Veozah is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause and can be used as a treatment option for postmenopausal vasomotor disease.

Function and efficacy

1. Effect:

Veozah reduces the occurrence of vasomotor symptoms by inhibiting the binding of neurokinin B to its receptors in the hypothalamus.

Veozah is the most advanced NK3R antagonist in clinical development. Inhibiting NK3R-mediated signaling in the central nervous system is a non-hormonal strategy to modulate neuronal activity associated with thermoregulation, thereby reducing the frequency and severity of VMS.

2. Efficacy:

Clinical trials have proven that Veozah placebo reduces the frequency and severity of vasomotor symptoms.

Clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause recommend hormonal therapy as the most effective treatment option. Risks associated with hormonal use may limit the use of this approach in some patients. Neurokinin B inhibitors, such as Veozah, target the physiological cause of vasomotor symptoms.

With the approval of Veozah and irizanitant, currently in Phase 3 clinical trials, healthcare providers and patients have additional non-hormonal treatment options to treat vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause.

Usage and Dosage

Before starting Veozah therapy, routine blood tests should be performed to assess liver function and degree of damage.

Veozah is recommended as one 45 mg tablet, taken orally once daily with or without food.

Side effects and treatment measures

1. Abdominal pain:

Veozah may cause abdominal pain symptoms during treatment. It is recommended that patients pay attention to their diet during treatment and avoid spicy and cold foods. When abdominal pain is severe, analgesics can be used to relieve it.

2. Insomnia:

Insomnia is also a common adverse reaction of Veozah. In daily life, you should pay attention to going to bed early and getting up early, avoid staying up late, avoid fatigue, and create a quiet sleep environment. If necessary, you can use sedative and hypnotic drugs as directed by your doctor.

3. Hot flashes:

Precautions

Increased liver transaminases: In clinical trials, Veozah can cause patients to have elevated liver transaminases. Therefore, blood tests should be performed before starting Veozah treatment to evaluate liver function and damage. Follow-up evaluation of hepatic transaminase concentrations was performed at 3, 6, and 9 months after initiation of treatment, or at the onset of symptoms of liver injury.
