Planep is a new type of selective aldosterone receptor antagonist that was approved for clinical use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2002.

Planep is suitable for 1. Congestive heart failure after acute myocardial infarction: Planep can improve the quality of life of patients with left ventricular dysfunction (ejection fraction ≤ 40%). Clinical trials have proven that Planep can also be used for congestive heart failure after acute myocardial infarction. 2. Anti-hypertension: Planep can be used alone or in combination with other anti-hypertensive drugs for the treatment of hypertension.

How much does Planep need? 

Common dosage for adults with congestive heart failure: Initial dose: 25 mg, orally, once a day; and within 4 weeks, gradually increase to the target dose as tolerated by the patient; Target dose: 50 mg, orally, once a day.

Common dosages for adults with hypertension: Planep can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs; initial dose: 50 mg, taken orally, once a day; maintenance dose: 50 mg, taken orally, 1-2 times a day; maximum dose: 100 mg/day; significant antihypertensive effects appear within four weeks of medication, and patients whose blood pressure does not respond adequately to the initial dose can be increased to 50 mg, twice a day.

Side effects of Planep include: cough, diarrhea, abdominal pain, angina, myocardial infarction, proteinuria, headache, dizziness, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, etc. Other side effects include: gynecomastia, abnormal vaginal bleeding; increases (serum potassium, triglycerides, cholesterol, alanine aminotransferase, γ-glutamyl transferase, creatinine, uric acid levels), decreased serum sodium levels, etc.
