Are there any adverse reactions to Anamorelin?

Anamorelin can be used for cancer cachexia in patients with malignant tumors. It has the effect of increasing appetite, body weight and muscle mass in patients with cancer cachexia. Although the efficacy is significant, anamorelin also has adverse reactions, such as weakness, fatigue, anemia, thrombocytopenia, atrial fibrillation, dyspnea, pneumonia, abdominal pain, anxiety, dyspnea, etc. Usually, patients have different physical constitutions and conditions, and the manifestations of adverse reactions are also different.

How safe is anamorelin in trials?

One study enrolled patients with non-small cell lung cancer or gastrointestinal cancer who had cancer cachexia. A total of 102 patients were eligible and enrolled to receive 100 mg of anamorelin once daily for up to 24 weeks. The results showed that the CCR rate (endogenous creatinine clearance rate) at 9 weeks was 25.9%, reaching the primary endpoint.

In terms of safety, increased glycosylated hemoglobin, constipation, and peripheral edema were the most common side effects studied. Anamorelin improves body weight and anorexia-related symptoms in patients with cancer cachexia and low BMI (body mass index), with durable efficacy and good safety and tolerability.

Cachexia is a common complication in cancer patients. Anamorelin is a new oral drug that can improve weight loss and loss of appetite in patients with cancer cachexia by simulating the ghrelin secreted by the gastrointestinal tract. Although anamorelin has adverse reactions, it is relatively well tolerated. Patients with cancer cachexia such as gastric cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, etc. can use anamorelin.

It should be noted that when taking anamorelin, patients with a history of allergies to the drug, ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction or angina pectoris cannot use anamorelin. It is recommended that patients take the drug under the guidance of a doctor, treat the symptoms, and not take the drug blindly.
